The future of CBC Radio's Q has been murky following the departure of embattled former host and co-founder Jian Ghomeshi, who faced even more sexual assault charges earlier this year. Things have apparently worked out, however, as the producers have announced a new permanent host: beloved Canadian rapper Shad.
The MC previously guest-hosted the show a handful of times in the four months since Ghomeshi's departure. And while some ill-informed listeners complained about his innocuous use of rap lingo like "dope," he's proven he can hold his own in conversations with the likes of Miranda July, Evangeline Lilly and Art Spiegelman.
As the Globe and Mail reports, the 32-year-old performer born Shadrach Kabango will take over the full-time job in mid-April. In a statement, the CBC's Chuck Thompson said, "It's been a long and thorough search for the new host of Q, and we're thrilled with our choice."
Though the new job will likely mean Shad's less busy in the studio and on tour, he'll still maintain a music career. As the Globe observes, he's got a show booked at Toronto's Massey Hall on March 27 — the same day that Jian Ghomeshi is due back in court.
Shad most recently released his stunning Boarding Pass EP late last year.
