'School of Rock' Gets TV Spinoff

One of the most charming post-millennial rock'n'roll flicks is being turned into a TV show. Jack Black's 2003 film School of Rock will be coming to the small screen soon, as Nickelodeon has ordered a 13-episode spinoff.

The Los Angeles Times reports that production will begin this fall. Casting will be announced soon, though it's unknown at this point if any of the original cast will be involved.

Jim and Steve Armogida (My Family, Crash & Bernstein) are multi-taking as writers, executive producers and show runners. Original School of Rock director Richard Linklater and producer Scott Rudin are on board as executive producers.

Like the film, this program will follow musician-turned-substitute teacher Dewey Finn as he takes over a class and turns it into a school of, well, rock. Along with Black, the original flick featured Joan Cusack, Sarah Silverman, a young Miranda Cosgrove and Mike White (who also wrote the film).

The kids covered tunes by bands like Deep Purple and AC/DC; we'll have to see if the music references are updated at all for the children's television audience. Will the students still debate the merits of Meg White as a drummer?

Paramount Television is producing the show, which makes sense given that Paramount Pictures produced the film.

Below, watch the cast's 10 year reunion performance from 2013.
