Run the Jewels

'Meow the Jewels'

It's time to throw your copies of Jingle Cats out, everybody, as you've got some new kitty-samplin' sounds to keep you company. The long-promised Meow the Jewels project from rap duo Run the Jewels is finally out, and you can lap it all up right now like a bowl of warm cream.

As previously reported, the crowd-funded record finds Killer Mike and El-P's Run the Jewels 2 completely re-imagined with cat sounds. Fantastically, the furball-favouring take on the full-length also delivers plenty of purr-fectly absurd puns (note, for instance, that "Crown" is now called "Creown," "All My Life" is retitled "All Meow Life," and so on and so forth).

Lending a helping paw on the production side of things are Prince Paul, Just Blaze, Zola Jesus, Portishead's Geoff Barrow, Dan the Automator and more. In addition to familiar RTJ2 guests like Zack De La Rocha, Meow the Jewels adds famous feline Lil Bub and, most surprisingly, Snoop Dogg.

A press release notes that this is "history's first ever 'cat rap' album," and you can download it for free over here. You can pre-order a 2 LP edition on "tawny brown" vinyl with "faux-fur hands" on the jacket over here.

All proceeds behind the sale of Meow the Jewels will be donated to various charities that benefit victims of police brutality.
