We've been hearing rumours about a new album from the Replacements for some time now, and while we still don't have any details about a possible upcoming collection, the band recently performed a new song called, um, "Whole Foods Blues."
The song is a smouldering, bluesy slow-burner with lyrics about nuts, fruits, protein shakes and snarky employees with "hippie hair" and "punk rock feet." It's not entirely clear if this is an actual song that the band have recorded, or if this is just a joke. Certainly, the sound is simple enough that it could have been made up on the spot. Well, it beats a 24-minute jazz jam, maybe?

Meanwhile, the band's manager Darren Hill confirmed to Billboard that the Replacements have seven or eight songs recorded in a studio, but, "It's just a question of what the band wants to ultimately do with them." There's also a biography called Trouble Boys and a documentary on the way.
Also, this summer Rhino will release two vinyl box sets consisting of the band's TwinTone years (1981's Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, 1982's Stink, 1983's Hootenanny, and 1984's Let It Be) and Sire releases (1985's Tim, 1987's Pleased to Meet Me, 1989's Don't Tell a Soul and 1990's All Shook Down).
