Prince

"Baltimore"

Just ahead of this weekend's "Rally 4 Peace" concert in Maryland, Prince has premiered his previously-promised "Baltimore" single online. You can check out a stream of the peace-striving protest song right now.

As previously reported, the song was recently written and recorded by Prince at his Paisley Park Studios, and it has him weighing-in on "the unrest in Baltimore and the socio/political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men."

The song has a laidback but funky feel to it, featuring acoustic guitar strums, velvety backups, and Prince's always extravagant guitar soloing. Despite the breezy feel, Prince delivers politically motivated lines about gun violence, police brutality and more.

"Does anybody hear us pray / 4 Michael Brown or Freddie Gray? / Peace is more than the absence of war," he sings at one point, with a group chant of "If there ain't no justice, then there ain't no peace" coming in later in the song.

Above all, it's a call for love and compassion, and you can check it out down below.

Prince will headline the "Rally 4 Peace" at Baltimore's Royal Farms Arena tomorrow (May 10). Organizers are calling the concert "a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S."
