The Pop Group Return with First New Album in 35 Years

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 25, 2014

This fall, influential British post-punks the Pop Group released a rarities comp and reissue, but they still haven't dropped a proper album since reuniting back in 2010. That will change this winter with the release of Citizen Zombie on February 23 on Freaks R Us.

This will be the band's first album in 35 years, since For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? in 1980. The album features frontman Mark Stewart, bassist Dan Catsis, guitarist Gareth Sager and drummer Bruce Smith, all of whom were in the late '70s/early '80s iteration of the outfit.

Citizen Zombie was recorded in various locales over the last couple of years and was finally finished this past summer with producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine, Coldplay). Stewart said in a statement, "Even I am shocked by the album. It really flips the script. Expect the unexpected. Let the freak flag fly."

It's about time that the Pop Group released an album, since their reunion has officially gone on for longer than their initial run. For a taste of their new material, scroll past the tracklist below to listen to the adventurous title track "Citizen Zombie."
