Paul Oakenfold

Greatest Hits & Remixes

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Nov 26, 2007

Paul Oakenfold has a way of hitting the right note for the time. He was an enigma in the late ’90s when people were raving around the world. And around 2001, he started releasing harder edged mixes, with many of his earlier works making appearances on this Greatest Hits & Remixes album. The DJ and remix artist is good at introducing electronica to pop music people by mixing it with what they like. Included here are great remixes of "My Love” by Justin Timberlake and T.I., U2’s "Beautiful Day,” Underworld’s "Born Slippy” and "Everything In It’s Right Place” by Radiohead. His version of Afrika Bambaataa’s earth-born hip-hop classic "Planet Rock” is meant to be played in a mega-club. It’s not a surprise to know many of Oakenfold’s DJ sets are based around movie soundtracks, as his productions feature a film soundtrack dramatic quality. His remix of the James Bond theme would see everyone cheering on the action. He’s got a grasp of the mathematics of tracks and how they are formed to the degree that, as a remix artist, his enhancement of the music generally comes naturally. There are also some original tracks by Oakenfold as well.
