Panda Bear Working on "Break-Centric" New Solo Album

It's been almost three years since Animal Collective member Panda Bear (a.k.a. Noah Lennox) released his most recent solo album, 2011's Tomboy, but that will change this year since he's reportedly gearing up to issue a new LP.

Details surrounding the record are still up in the air, but Panda Bear revealed to Under the Radar that it's tentatively titled Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. He's reportedly working with producer Sonic Boom (of Spacemen 3), who mixed Tomboy.

Lennox said that the recordings are more closely linked to 2007's Person Pitch than Tomboy, explaining, "That could be because there's a lot of samples and sampling involved in the process of making the songs, although different samplers, and I made a lot of sounds for the samples myself, rather than taking little samples of other people's music."

He said that the drum-focused music is "heavier and break-centric," and the lyrics are less introspective than usual and address "change or evolution." Sessions are taking place in Lennox's home city of Lisbon, Portugal.

It's unclear exactly when the album will be released, but Lennox is hoping to finish recording within the first half of 2014.
