"Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart" (ft. Sarah Mitchell) (Against Me! cover)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 15, 2014

As previously reported, Mike Kinsella is putting his own spin on a few of his favourite tunes on the next Owen LP, the self-explanatory Other People's Songs. With over a month and a half to go before the covers set hits stereos, though, the Chicago musician is previewing the set with a heartfelt run-through of Florida punk crew Against Me!'s "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart."

Removed of rock drums and distorted power chords, Kinsella upends the original arrangement by supplying it with folky, river-trickle acoustic guitar work and string quartet bowing.

In place of Laura Jane Grace and Tegan Quinn are Kinsella and Sarah Mitchell, who still put a melancholy spin on the track's themes of miscommunication, falling out of love, popping pills and fighting to stay in control of a situation.

You'll find the low-key and tender redo down below. Other People's Songs arrives December 2 via Polyvinyl, packaged with Owen's interpretations of tracks from Depeche Mode, Smoking Popes and more.
