Osheaga Leaks 2015 Lineup via Driving Game

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 18, 2015

Last year, Osheaga's organizers teased their lineup announcement with a poster filled with hints about who would be performing at the Montreal festival. Now, they're pulling a similar stunt, only this time using a mobile app videogame that has allowed users to unlock the 2015 lineup.

The Virgin Mobile-powered game is called The Road to Osheaga, and it's a third-person driving game that allows users to dodge obstacles in cars driven by the characters Oshee and Aga. You'll collect points and power-ups and grab 10-year anniversary cakes (this is Osheaga's 10th year). Getting a cake will reveal one of the nearly 80 acts who will appear at this year's event, which runs from July 31 to August 2 at Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Thanks to this the app, we now know the festival features Kendrick Lamar, Florence and the Machine, the Black Keys, St. Vincent, Alt-J, the Decemberists, Hot Chip, Weezer, Nas, the Kills, Caribou, Future Islands, the War on Drugs, Ben Harper, Of Monsters and Men, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Charli XCX, Gary Clark Jr., Action Bronson, Brand New, Patrick Watson, Twin Shadow, First Aid Kit, Toro y Moi, Philip Selway, Viet Cong, Alvvays, MS MR, San Fermin, Young Fathers, Young the Giant, Tyler the Creator, and more.

As previously reported, the festival already announced an initial batch of 2015 performers, including Run the Jewels, Interpol, Caribou/Daphni, Schoolboy Q, Father John Misty, Milky Chance, Kygo, the Avett Brothers, Marina and the Diamonds and Stromae.

UPDATE: You can see the official festival lineup poster above.

Nick Farkas of evenko (which produces the festival) said in a statement about the app, "The Osheaga team is very proud to be the first festival in North America to give such a gift to our fans to celebrate our 10th anniversary. With this game, fans can hear the music while discovering the artists and bands on the lineup, which is added value to their experience. We are glad to have found an original and fun way to bring together the world of arts and music with the gaming world, two complementary areas that are constantly making headlines and promoting the city of Montreal."

Even better, the highest scorers will have a chance to win prizes and get free festival passes.

The game is available today for iOS; get it now over at the festival's website. It will be released for Android on March 19. Watch a trailer for the game below. Passes will go on sale on March 24.
