Oneohtrix Point Never

"Rush" / "Bubs" (ft. A.G. Cook)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 18, 2014

Despite the release of a Record Store Day 12-inch and some live gigs, it seemed to be a pretty quiet year for Daniel Lopatin's Oneohtrix Point Never project. Thankfully, he's just knocked out a couple circuit board-scorching loosies to gift us just ahead of the holidays.

First up is "Rush," a loop-heavy leftover from last year's R Plus Seven whose frizz-fried front-end of chimes and blips eventually breaks down into a calming, new age funk pattern of faux-choir and pizzicato synth strings.

"Bubs" is a collaboration with A.G. Cook that jumps all over the place with twist-and-turn synth damage, siren sounds and slivers of chamber pop arrangements. The Christmas bells, whether synthetic or real, make the busy cut feel oddly appropriate for the season.
