Oh Geronimo

"The Flood" / "Waves (The Flood Pt. 2)"

Folksy Toronto-based indie rockers Oh Geronimo are set to unveil a new two-song single, and Exclaim! has got your exclusive first listen to it.

The six-piece band share members with the Big Lonely and aim to create music that lets them "freefall into the moment." It's a mantra that's embraced on the two new tracks from Oh Geronimo's new digital 7-inch single, which delivers "The Flood" and "Waves (The Flood Pt. 2)."

"Not too long ago, my basement bedroom flooded as a result of heavy rainfall and snowmelt," explains singer Ciarán Downes. "This happened twice during the transitional turmoil between Ontario's sombre winter and damp spring. It had a much more tragic and lasting effect than I anticipated, since many sentimental items were slowly destroyed by mould. We wrote these songs about it."

Despite the less than joyful inspiration behind the songs, the results are a surprisingly buoyant, uplifting pair of folk-rock tunes, propelled by poppy melodies and eclectic instrumentation.
