This spring, Japanese pop explorers Ogre You Asshole returned with their "Rule Invisible" 12-inch, promising at the time that this was only just a taste of an upcoming full-length. Now just a few months later, the band have made good on their word and announced Papercraft.
Via the P-Vine imprint, the new album will arrive in Japan on October 15.
The new LP marks OYA's first since 2012's 100 Years After, completing a trilogy of conceptual albums that began in 2011 with Homely. Utilizing an array of museum-quality analog gear, the band once again teamed up with Japanese studio guru You Ishihara (Yura Yura Teikoku, Boris), as well as had the album recorded and mixed by Souichiro Nakamura (Guitar Wolf, Keiji Haino, Yura Yura Teikoku).
In typical Japanese release fashion, Papercraft will come in deluxe form, with a limited box version including a cassette that will feature unreleased outtakes (or what the press release refers to as "out tracks") from the group's five-month recording session. The deluxe release will also come with a download code for those without a tape deck.
So far no new songs from Papercraft have arrived, but you can revisit "Rule Invisible," which will appear on the album, via a sample player below and a recently captured live clip.
That's the tracklist below and the beautifully simple album art above. Also below you'll find OYA's upcoming Japanese tour dates in support of Papercraft, though so far there are no signs of any North American dates or a domestic release of the album.
