This spring, musicians celebrated when the NDP's Rachel Notley became the premier of Alberta. Now, however, Notley has music fans groaning thanks a new T-shirt that rips off the Nine Inch Nails logo.
The shirts were made to celebrate a meet-up earlier this week with Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. The garments are emblazoned with Nine Inch Nails' signature "NIN" logo, which in this case stands for "Notley Iveson Nenshi." It also bears the slogan "Building Alberta Together."
A photo of the politicians posing with the shirts was unveiled on Twitter on Tuesday (June 23). It's probably fair to assume that the design wasn't approved by Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor, but he hasn't offered any comment at this point.
As corny as the duds are, at least Nenshi is in on the joke. When someone tweeted that the shirts were "lame," Nenshi gave the following response:

@Imalbertaboy @chimaincalgary @RachelNotley of course it's lame. That's why it's funny.

This is the second rock'n'roll knockoff tee that Notley has been associated with. During her campaign this spring, supporters began selling faux-Mötley Crüe shirts bearing the words "Nötley Crüe." Perhaps, if her political career doesn't work out, Notley can find future success in selling bootleg concert tees outside of Edmonton's Rexall Place?
