Mission of Burma Conjure Up New Full-Length

On October 6, Matador Records will release The Sound the Speed the Light by legendary post-punkers Mission of Burma, marking the band's follow-up to 2007's The Obliterati. Produced by the almost equally legendary Bob Weston (Volcano Suns, Shellac), who replaced Martin Swope as Burma's tape-loopist/live-sound manipulator in 2002, the album will be preceded by a teaser seven-inch release on August 18, with two non-album tracks thrown on for good measure.

According to the Matablog, the album will be divided thematically into four "suites" of three songs, each exploring "a set of moods or colours." It is also reportedly "more spacious and dynamic" in sound than the band's previous efforts, and while we're not exactly sure what to make of all of that, a preview of the album's opening track, the ebullient "1, 2, 3, Partyy!," is available to download here. And friends, it's sounding pretty good.

Pre-orders are available on Matador's website .
