Music fans and George R.R. Martin disciples alike are surely anticipating the arrival of the upcoming Game of Thrones-themed mixtape Catch the Throne: Vol. 2. We recently caught a taste of the release with Talib Kweli's "Lord of the Light," but the fantasy epic themes lend themselves even better to some epic metal. Thankfully, Mastodon's contribution is available now.
"White Walker" opens with crying babies and a brooding floor tom, building up with acoustic guitars, echo-laden vocals and a vaguely medieval melody. Finally, in its last minute, the song erupts in an alt-metal crescendo.
