Mas Ysa Reveals Debut Album, Shares "Margarita"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 12, 2015

Montreal-born musician Thomas Arsenault made his debut as Mas Ysa with last year's Worth EP and followed it up with the single "Look Up," but the electro singer-songwriter has now announced plans for his first full-length effort.

Titled Seraph, the LP is slated to arrive arrive on July 24 via Downtown Records/MapleMusic Recordings.

Arsenault recorded the album over a year at his home studio, enlisting additional production help from Steve Rivette (Liars, Black Dice) and mixing work from Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire).

Despite the dance-tinged sounds of the songs, Seraph isn't merely designed to get people dancing, with a press release describing the new material as "electronic music for the heart."

"This is personal," Arsenault said in a statement about the album, and he keeps things close to home on new single "Margarita" too.

"This is named for my mom, who's also on the cover art of everything I do," he said, speaking about the song. "It deals with the trauma of becoming your own autonomous person and that person when you see your parent as a fallible person. It's a complicated thank you."
