Leviathan Unveil 'Scar Sighted'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 15, 2014

A three-year drought concluded earlier this year when Leviathan issued the split release with Krieg, but project founder Wrest (a.k.a. Jef Whitehead) will be charging into 2015 full force with a grander statement. His fifth full-length, Scar Sighted, arrives February 17 through Profound Lore, with a vinyl pressing in the works through Devout Records.

The album, which follows 2011's True Traitor, True Whore, is described in a press release as "the most crushing and dark-sounding Leviathan album to date," pulling influence from various sonic elements the now Portland-based artist has dabbled with over the years.

While the title, album art and due date have been revealed, a tracklisting has yet to be delivered. However, the album was tracked with Billy Anderson (Swans, Agalloch, Pallbearer) in Portland. A deluxe CD box will also be packaged with artwork inserts illustrated by Whitehead.

In addition to 2014's Leviathan/Krieg split 7-inch, which had Wrest contributing "...A Slave," the musician contributed to black metal supergroup Twilight's final LP, III: Beneath Trident's Tomb.

Whitehead had been sentenced to two years probation in 2012 on an aggravated domestic battery charge. He had been tried on four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of unlawful restraint, and one count of aggravated domestic battery against his girlfriend, with another 24 charges having been dropped before his trial. He had first been charged in early 2011, and detailed the situation from his perspective on True Traitor, True Whore.
