Last year, Toronto's "Balkan-klezmer-gypsy-party-punk super band" the Lemon Bucket Orkestra ventured into the crisis in Ukraine and toured Canada, but now they're focusing on releasing a new studio album. The record is called Moorka, and it will be out on March 24.
The 16-piece band recorded the album in a barn in Waterloo, ON. Sessions took place in September following the aforementioned Canadian tour. The results were mixed by Howie Beck and mastered by Joao Carvalho.
As the band explained, the album was partly inspired by last year's trip to Ukraine.
"It was a difficult album to record because we were trying to balance just having come off a gruelling three-month cross-Canada tour with conflicting emotions about the worsening conflict in Ukraine, which was starting to draw friends of ours to the eastern front," singer-violinist Mark Marcyk said in a statement. "But we're very proud of what came out of that experience — an album that embodies our travels across eastern Europe and Canada driven by the whole range of emotions we were fighting with, embracing, and publicly expressing along the way."
The tracklist is below. Head here to listen to the eclectic world-jazz album cut "Dimineata pe Racoare (Romania)."
