Ki: Theory

"The Way It Was"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 20, 2015

Ki:Theory has been commissioned for remixes by the likes of Daft Punk and Kings of Leon, but he's aiming to get his own name front and centre on the marquee with his new track "The Way It Was" — and Exclaim.ca has got an exclusive premiere.

Joel Burleson may not be a household name yet, but his work as electronic producer Ki: Theory probably sounds familiar to many. In addition to the aforementioned high-profile remix work, his recent version of "Stand By Me" has been featured on television shows like Marco Polo and The Following.

His latest single "The Way It Was" gets even more intense. The dark, hard rock track is driven by ominous, pounding synths and definitely delivers a sinister vibe. According to a press release, the piece "summons visions of neon lights, skyscrapers, and midnight clouds," which sets a pretty accurate scene.

Ki: Theory is getting ready to head out on a string of North American tour dates, which you can see below. Scroll past the upcoming gigs for the first listen to "The Way It Was."
