Tri Angle beatmaker Evian Christ (born Josh Leary) was a crucial presence on Kanye West's 2013 album Yeezus, and it looks as if the two will be teaming up again.
While Leary previously helped mould Yeezus's noisy, abrasive crackles, the producer is now working on something a little more traditional. Speaking with Self-Titled [via Pitchfork], Leary explained that Kanye is asking for less noise-damaged material.
"I've got to get home and write an Otis Redding–style beat for him," he said. "He emailed last night. He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep."
Leary also gave some insight into Kanye's collaborative process, saying, "Kanye is the one dude who's like, 'This is not experimental enough. This is too poppy. Make something else.' The other guys are like, 'We don't get it.' Kanye is a dream to work with. No one else gives you that level of creative freedom. When he wants you to work to a blueprint, the blueprint is: 'Don't make a rap beat. Anything but a rap beat.'"
West recently cancelled an Australian tour to finish his as-yet-untitled seventh solo album. The release is expected to arrive sometime this year. Evian Christ, for his part, recently released his Waterfall EP.
