José Contreras

'José Contreras' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 2, 2015

By Divine Right frontman José Contreras released his debut solo album last year, and now the final six songs from that offering are getting their own release as a new self-titled EP. To mark the EP's release, Exclaim! is streaming the new set of songs in its entirety.

The tracks were originally recorded at Contreras's Chicano Power studio in Halton Hills, ON, with producer and collaborator Lee Maslin. The songs span the singer-songwriter's 25-year career, offering up a "soft, spiritual take" on songs from the last couple of decades of work, as well as some new ones.

The six songs on the EP fall in line with Contreras's recent transition from a "punchy pop" to a more "guitar gospel" sound, soothing the listener with an intimate and relaxing collection of tunes.

The José Contreras EP lands today (June 2) via Squirtgun Records. Give it a listen below.
