Folk oddball Joanna Newsom has an album called Divers coming out in a little more than a month, on October 23 via Drag City, and she's just rolled out a new tune called "Leaving the City."
The track is a pastoral ditty in which Newsom's peculiar voice is matched with plinking harp and piano. This is fairly standard stuff as far as Newsom is concerned, but the arrangement takes an unexpected turn with the introduction of some harsh-sounding tones and a booming, intermittent beat.
This follows the previously released "Sapokanikan." Hear "Leaving the City" below.
