When he's not working as a member of The xx, British beatmaker Jamie xx (a.k.a. Jamie Smith) has built a name for his solo work. Despite the reputation, however, he's had relatively scarce output. After a lengthy silence, he's finally set to release his first official solo 12-inch since 2011.
The new release features two brand new songs called "Girl" and "Sleep Sound." The songs will be issued as a double A-side 12-inch on May 5 via Young Turks.
For now, "Sleep Sound" can be streamed in full below. The song is over six minutes in length and opens with some heavenly samples. Eventually, the track offers up a four-on-the-floor dance beat without abandoning the song's hushed quality. As it unfolds, "Sleep Sound" is at once soothing and rhythmic.
