Proggy Danes Mew just released their album +- earlier this year, but they're going to have go about promoting it without founding guitarist Bo Madsen, who has left the band.
Mew confirmed the news with a statement on their website. It doesn't offer a reason for Madsen's departure, saying only that he is leaving the group "for the time being" and that his bandmates will be continuing on without him. Guitarist Mads Wegner will be filling in for Madsen for upcoming tour dates.
The statement is as follows:
After 20 years playing together in Mew, the band and Bo Madsen have decided to part ways for the time being.
At present the rest of us will continue with Mew.
We are happy to tell you that guitarist Mads Wegner will be joining us on our upcoming shows, and we look forward to seeing you all out there.
Thank you for your understanding and support,
Jonas, Johan and Silas
It's not impossible to imagine Madsen returning to the band sometime in the future: bassist John Wohlert left the group in 2006, but rejoined in 2013 to reunite the band's original lineup, which also includes frontman Jonas Bjerre and drummer Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen.
