Frances Bean Cobain is the daughter of late Nirvana great Kurt Cobain, and she's also behind the new documentary Montage of Heck, but her new interview with Rolling Stone reveals a surprising piece of information: she doesn't actually like Nirvana.
When asked about her father's music, the 22-year-old visual artist admitted, "I don't really like Nirvana that much. Sorry, promotional people, Universal. I'm more into Mercury Rev, Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre."
It seems that '90s alt-rock isn't to her tastes, since she confessed, "The grunge scene is not what I'm interested in."
That being said, she did have kind words for a couple of her dad's songs, since she added, "'Territorial Pissings' is a fucking great song. And 'Dumb' — I cry every time I hear that song. It's a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself — of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation."
All of this leaves one question that's still begging to be asked: what does Frances Bean think of her mom Courtney Love's band Hole?
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will air on HBO on May 4. A theatrical release is expected before then, and we can expect some unheard music. Below, listen to a snippet of new acoustic music from Cobain's vaults, which comes via a short clip from the film.
There will also be a companion book. The film will screen at Hot Docs in Toronto on April 24 and 25.
