Toronto's Secret Broadcast can trace their origins back to Calgary, but their latest album was recorded in the heart of grunge in Seattle. Filthy Souls is out on April 8 via eOne Music Canada, and it's available to stream now at Exclaim.ca.
The LP was laid down at the Emerald City's Robert Lang Studios with producer Adam Kasper (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). As you'd expect, the songs have plenty of alt-rock muscle, and the band even covered Nirvana's "Breed." There's also an undercurrent of Britpop drama in the acoustic-anchored "Stardust."
"Working with Adam was incredible," singer-guitarist Matt Lightstone said in a statement. "He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he really pushed us to get the most out of every song. He had a lot of great ideas and encouraged us to record the songs live, which I think helps make it sound like a rock record. We captured most of the basic tracks off-the-floor in one or two takes and I think you can feel the energy in the room when you listen back."
