Exhumed Re-Record Debut Album as 'Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998-2015'

Extreme gore-grind freaks Exhumed have announced they recently hit the studio to recreate the nasty sounds of their 1998 debut LP Gore Metal, with a mach 2.0 version of the sinister song cycle set to be unleashed in 2015. Titled Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998-2015, the revamp lands February 10 through Relapse.

A press release explains that the band weren't happy with how the original LP came out, despite it offering "unrepentantly fast, furious and maniacal" death metal, over-the-top gross-out lyrics and truly repugnant cover art showcasing a severed head in a microwave and a chainsaw encumbered in internal organs. To rectify this, they hit a studio to revisit the material. Making it more authentic, they invited former bassist/vocalist Ross Sewage back to contribute vocals to tracks he helped make back in the '90s.

"I'm super pumped that we got the chance to re-record Gore Metal," vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey said in a statement. "I don't think any of us were happy with how it turned out the first time around, so getting another shot at it meant a lot to me personally. I was also really excited to have our old friend Ross Sewage reprise his vocals on the new version, ensuring that it still sounds like that era of Exhumed, though things are a lot more audible this time around!"

You'll find a viciously refurbished "Open the Abscess" in a stream down below, along with a tracklisting. The 12-song redux lands on LP and in a digital edition, while a double-CD release adds the original Gore Metal on a bonus disc. Up above, you'll find the decidedly slicker modified album art. By which we mean, there's an even gorier assemblage of body parts strewn about the album cover.

In other news, Exhumed will be hitting the road early next year alongside Napalm Death, Voivod and split LP mates Iron Reagan and more on the "Through Space and Grind" tour, which hits a series of Canadian venues. You'll find all the date details here.
