Late indie pop legend Elliott Smith may have passed away in 2003, but his infamy lives on in various ways. One of those is Heaven Adores You, a documentary film that played the festival circuit in 2014. The film will now receive a limited run in theatres.
The film was directed by Nickolas Rossi, and marks the first documentary with official permission to use Smith's music. Thanks to access granted by Smith's closest friends, it features unheard songs, private photos and archival footage.
Heaven Adores You also includes interviews with Jon Brion, Larry Crane, Rob Schnapf, Slim Moon and Smith's sister Ashley, among others.
In May, the film will screen in cinemas worldwide. This includes two Canadian showings, at Vancouver's Doxa Film Festival on May 6 and Montreal's PHI Centre on May 11.
If you can't make those screenings, the film will eventually see a home release. However, according to a FAQ on the film's official site, they're still securing the music rights for a home release of the film.
