Those with short attention spans might have forgotten about Dungen, since the Swedish psych rock band haven't released an album since 2010's Skit I Allt. But the band clearly haven't been doing "skit i allt" (Swedish for "fuck all") since then, as they've just announced a new album.
The collection is called Allas Sak, and it will be out on September 25 through Mexican Summer/Smalltown Supersound. The title translates roughly as "everyone's thing."
Dungen leader Gustav Ejstes said in a statement, "I was told by a friend once that as a songwriter and as a musical artist, you have to understand that as soon as the music leaves your body, it is no longer strictly yours. The listener also owns it and filters it through their personality, their thoughts and feelings."
That is to say, music becomes "everyone's thing."
The album was produced by Mattias Glavå, who also worked on Dungen's 2005 album Stadsvandringar. Unlike past sessions, the new songs were fully worked out beforehand rather than written in the studio, and then tracked live to tape. According to a press release, the results are "livelier, feistier yet more focused" than Dungen's past efforts.
For a taste of this, scroll past the tracklist below to hear the smooth, easygoing psych-pop cut "Akt Dit."
