Metal-faced spitter DOOM just released the bombastic and impressive Key to the Kuffs album with beatsmith Jneiro Jarel, as JJ DOOM, so you'd figure the guy would be ready to celebrate. Some English fans hoping to catch the rapper in action in London this past weekend felt the same way, too, but ended up getting another one of DOOM's metal-faced clones instead.
The rapper -- who once admitted to hiring actors to play his part live and said, "If you're coming to a DOOM show, don't expect to see me, expect to hear me or hear the music that I present" -- was apparently contracted to play a party Saturday (August 25) called "Livin' DOOM," which was arranged by London, UK crew Livin' Proof. The show was expected to feature a DJ set from DOOM, but partygoers noticed something was awry when a dude who definitely wasn't Daniel Dumile showed up intending to only sign autographs.
"We were told by management that he would appear but would not DJ and was just going to sign autographs. We said this was unacceptable as we had agreed and paid for a DJ set," Livin' Proof said in a statement [via XXL]. "Ten minutes later we received a call saying that he would DJ… Or that's what we were led to believe."
Considering funds had already been forwarded to Dumile for the performance, the show organizers are looking into some legal options over the fraudulent fracas.
"We paid the fee upfront to Daniel Dumile's bank account and have the receipts to prove this. We will be seeking legal advice and are doing our best to get his show fee refunded from DOOM and his management and will then take suitable steps after this action."
DOOM has yet to comment, but you can read Livin' Proof's account of the situation here.
