Grunged-out Toronto punks Dilly Dally are ready to ditch the Pixies comparisons and make a statement of their own their debut album, Sore. And while the first full-length offering from the band doesn't officially arrive until next week, Exclaim! has got the Canadian exclusive on an early stream of the record in its entirety.
Core members Katie Monks (vocals/guitar) and Liz Ball (guitar) were joined by Jimmy Tony (bass) and Benjamin Reinhartz (drums), and the rounded out lineup roped in producers Josh Korody (Fucked Up, Greys) and Leon Taheny (Austra, Owen Pallett) to help capture their sound to tape.
The result is a pummelling onslaught of rock'nroll that blends Monk's raw-yet-refined wails with distorted guitars and a gritty rhythm section— and it's as endearing as it is badass. Taking the quiet-loud-quiet aesthetic of classic '90s indie and giving it much needed facelift, Dilly Dally offer up a brash, unapologetic declaration of their arrival on the scene with Sore.
The album is out October 9 via Partisan/Buzz Records, and the band have launched a retro-style video game on their website to mark the occasion. Players can suit up as band-inspired avatars like Blizzard or Katie Hunks and take their chances against the evil Gross Purple Dude, who's been terrorizing Toronto, slathering the streets with "blood and flames and pizza crusts and ice cream cones." A win will award you "the glorious (albeit temporary) quenching of your insatiable blood lust" and a chance to hear the album a week early.
