Experimental German punks Die Goldenen Zitronen have been making music together for more than 30 years, and they're ready to release their 11th album Flogging a Dead Frog later this week. Before it leaps to life, though, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the record in its entirety.
The new set of songs hears the band reworking some of the band's recent releases for English-speaking audiences, offering up some as translated tracks and others as instrumentals. We've already heard the politically charged and incredibly timely "If I Were a Sneaker," which scrutinizes Germany's immigration policies. Now listeners can get further insight into the band's meaningful messages with the arrival of the complete album.
As a press release points out, though, there's more to Die Goldenen Zitronen than attention-grabbing statements. The inclusion of instrumental tracks like "Der Flötist An Den Toren Der Dämmerung" and "Crashing Stockmarkets" highlight the fact that "the band's sound has always been much more than a musical accompaniment for the unrelenting social commentary of singer Schorsch Kamerun."
The whole record is an intriguing blend of punk, techno and krautrock, and you can give it a listen in the player below right now. Flogging a Dead Frog is officially out on September 18 via Altin Village & Mine.
