Detroit Proto-Punkers Death on Deck to Get Their Very Own Documentary

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jul 17, 2009

If there's any band that deserve their own documentary, it has to be Detroit proto-punks Death. The all African-American band formed in 1971 out of a mutual love of rock'n'roll bands like MC5 and the Stooges, and would have had a flourishing career on Capitol Records if they changed their name. But they didn't, and instead fell into obscurity until Drag City finally released their amazing LP, ...For the World to See, earlier this year.

Now, a documentary about the band is in the works. Titled Where Do We Go From Here?, the doc chronicles Death's return from obscurity and subsequent reunion shows. Based on the trailer, viewable below, the documentary goes deep into each member's personal life, interviewing various family members about the band's forward-thinking garage rock.

There is no release date set in stone for the documentary, with the project still listed as "in progress." Let's hope it doesn't take 38 years for it to get released like ...For the World to See.
