The Decemberists Announce 'Florasongs' EP, Premiere New Single

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 11, 2015

Long-running indie folk troupe the Decemberists have announced they'll soon be following up their early 2015 full-length, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, with an EP of extra tracks recorded during the same sessions. Their Florasongs lands October 9 via Capitol.

A post on the group's website explains that the five-song set comprises material that had to be left off their last full-length release. Reason being, it would have made the record just too damn long. As such, the remaining material has been collected onto 10-inch vinyl, CD and in digital packages as Florasongs.

"You may not know this, but nineteen songs were recorded for WATW,WABW, each one of them a contender," the band wrote, adding, "Since there are very few records in existence that merit a nineteen-plus song tracklist (e.g. Tusk, Zen Arcade, and nope, thats it), we mercifully whittled it down to fourteen tracks."

Down below, you'll find a stream of Florasongs' opening cut, "Why Would I Now?," a tracklisting, and a batch of fall U.S. concert dates. You can pre-order the Decemberists' new EP over here.
