The 50th anniversary celebrations behind David Bowie's illustrious career, via the upcoming release of the Nothing Has Changed compendium, have begun a little early. The collection's lone new tune, "Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)," premiered this morning (October 12).
The track was revealed through the BBC, and whirls out as a mind-blowing expulsion of ideas, led by the post-operatic vibrato of the man who fell to earth. Wrapped up into the arrangement is a plastic soul rumble of sax that later unfurls into more baroque brass tendencies, buzzing bee guitar distortion, spy rock licks and a damaged but funky drum break.
Bowie punctuates this with a few bright-eyed musings to the tune's "Sue" ("I got the job/We'll buy the house"), but the narrative builds up to tormented tootlings and crestfallen admissions ("I'm such a fool").
