Courtney Love to Star in Opera

Hole frontwoman Courtney Love seems to have her sights set on anything but that Hole reunion. After taking on an acting role in the final season of Sons of Anarchy, Love has now revealed plans to star in an opera.

Grunge's first lady has signed on to play the lead role in Todd Almond's New York City production of Kansas City Choir Boy, which will launch in January.

Speaking about the casting decision to the New York Times, Almond said: "I've always been fascinated with her. I love her voice, and I think she's a great actress. And I thought she would find the character interesting."

Love returned the praise, telling the newspaper, "I love the concept, and I'm loving the music. I'm playing it constantly," She continued, "I'm looking to do things that are different."

Well, this is certainly something different. Almond has clarified, however, that we shouldn't expect a traditional production with Love standing centre stage in a Viking hat and braids.

Almond refers to the music as a "concept album," telling the Times: "When I say 'opera,' I don't mean it's in an operatic style. I mean it in the sense that it's a group of songs that tell a story. I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera, which I think of as a form that opens the minds of both the performers and the listeners."

Hopefully there are enough open minds out there to fill the theatre when it premiers on January 8.
