Chvrches have freed the first single from their newly announced sophomore LP, Every Open Eye. You can sample the electro-pop sounds of their anthemic "Leave a Trace" in a new lyric video.
The track shimmers with various glitzy keyboard tones and a steady, digitized clack. On the vocal side of things, Lauren Mayberry offers a series of lines that look forward to moving on from a since-shuttered personal relationship. After detailing unkind times, and a need to bury the past, she sings determinedly: "I know I need to feel relief/I know I need to feel released"
"'Leave a Trace' is the middle finger mic-drop," Mayberry told Pitchfork. "It's about that point where you're like, 'There's no point having this conversation anyways: There will be no resolve, I won't feel better about it, you won't feel better about it, no outcome from this will actually change my reality.'"
Chvrches' better days will apparently get even better by September 25, the day Universal Music Canada/Glassnote unleashes Every Open Eye.
