Christine Fellows

'Burning Daylight' (album stream)

Winnipeg folk veteran Christine Fellows returns with her sixth full-length studio album Burning Daylight later this month, but you can hear the whole thing now at Exclaim.ca.

The new record was inspired by Jack London stories and Canada's sprawling North — beginning when Fellows served as the songwriter-in-residence at the Dawson City Music Festival in the Yukon, and spurred on by a trip to Nunavut with the National Film Board.

Fellows "examines dislocation, isolation, family and frailty, reflected in our relationship with the ever-changing northern landscape" in the new material, according to a recent press release. The inspiration manifested itself beyond the music, as the album will be released with an accompanying book of poetry.

Burning Daylight channels the wild of the Canadian North into refined and sometimes haunting piano-driven folk songs that highlight Fellows' gorgeous voice. Sure to be a Canadian treasure for some time to come, Burning Daylight arrives via ARP Books on September 23. Stream it in its entirety below.
