Bobby Shmurda Arrested in NYPD Sting

Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda was among the many individuals arrested at New York City's Quad City Studios today (December 17) as part of an apparent sting operation.

Though specific charges have not yet been revealed, the New York Police Department's Director of Public Information Kati Cornell explained that the bust, which also picked up other members of Shmurda's GS9 crew, had been in the works for some time.

"These arrests were the result of a long-term investigation," Cornell told Wondering Sound, adding of the case, "My office has a sealed indictment against a number of individuals."

Specifics will be shed tomorrow (December 18) during arraignments at Manhattan Supreme Court. Cornell hinted, though, that the case deals with "a number of violent incidents, as well as narcotics trafficking."

The "Hot N*gga" rapper has been arrested a couple times this year, being slapped with felony gun charges after an arrest back in June, as well as receiving a misdemeanour drug charge for possession of marijuana back in October.

Shmurda issued his Shmurda She Wrote EP, featuring "Hot N*gga" and "Bobby Bitch," in November. He's expected to deliver a full-length album for Epic Records in 2015, as well as a collaborative mixtape called Shmigo Gang that'll partner him with Migos, Rich the Kid and more.

UPDATE: Prosecutors have now released their indictment. In it, they claim more than 15 defendants committed a variety of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault and drug dealing. Shmurda was charged with conspiracy to commit murder but not the murder itself, as well as other weapon and drug charges. He pled not guilty to the charges and is being held on $2 million bail.
