Bob Marley may have been the subject of the worst Record Store Day release of 2015, but the reggae legend and his band the Wailers continue to be remembered with ridiculous vinyl releases. Up next is The Complete Island Recordings.
This vinyl box set is due out on September 25 through Island Records. It includes 11 180-gram LPs, which comprise Bob Marley & the Wailers' entire catalogue on Island Records and span a decade-long period from 1973's Catch a Fire to 1983's Confrontation. Many of Marley's most iconic songs were made in this period, including "Get Up, Stand Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," "No Woman, No Cry," "Stir It Up," "Jamming," "Three Little Birds," "Is This Love," "Could You Be Loved," "Buffalo Soldier" and "Redemption Song."
The Complete Island Recordings comes in two forms: a standard version, and a special Collector's Edition. Both of the boxes are silver and have a lift-top lid that resembles a Zippo lighter; the Collector's Edition is actually made of metal, whereas the regular version is simply wrapped in silver paper. (If you're stoned enough, you might not be able to tell the difference.)
Beyond that, the Collector's Edition comes with a slip mat and two photos in glassine envelopes. The boxes features a special logo to celebrate Bob Marley's 70th birthday, which would have been this past February had he not died of cancer in 1981.
The 11 LPs in the set will also be released individually. They come in sleeves that recreate the original packaging; Live! even includes a print of the original poster, and Babylon by Bus has a die-cut cover.
