Ozzy and the boys are planning one last kick at the can, as Black Sabbath have announced plans to begin writing a new album, which will apparently be their last.
From the sound of things, the LP could still be a ways off, since writing sessions are slated to begin until early 2015. Still, hard rock fans can rest assured that plans are afoot.
Speaking with Metal Hammer, singer Ozzy Osbourne said, "We're going to do one more album, and a final tour. Once the dust settled after the last tour we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to Sharon 'What's going on? Because if there's no more Sabbath I want to get on with my own thing again' and she came back and said 'Let me look into it.' Three weeks later I asked her about it again, and she said 'Oh, I still have to talk to so and so…' and I said 'Sharon, I ain't fucking 21 any more, if we're going to do it I want to do it before I'm 70!' Time isn't on our side! So she made the call and came back and said 'Yeah, the record company wants another album.'"
He added that he expects the band to work with producer Rick Rubin, who also helmed 2013's comeback album 13. The exact timeline of the new album will apparently depend on guitarist Tony Iommi.
"It'll be sooner rather than later," Ozzy said. "Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony's health, he's obviously got his cancer treatment, but we'll get onto it next year. I don't know if we'll be writing in England or L.A., but I'll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!"
Like 13, this album is poised to feature Ozzy, Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler. It seems that they're still on the outs with drummer Bill Ward, with whom they controversially parted ways in 2012.
In related news, Ozzy is looking back on his solo career with the compilation Memoirs of a Madman, which arrives on October 7 through Epic Records/Legacy Recordings.
