Best Coast Announce Jon Brion-Produced Sophomore LP 'The Only Place'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 6, 2012

We knew that Best Coast's sophomore LP was right around the corner, and sure enough, the summery pop band made up of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have just officially unveiled their new album. Entitled The Only Place, it's due out May 15 on Mexican Summer.

Apparently, the title refers to California, which is only fitting given that the album cover shows a golden bear hugging the state itself (see above). A press release reports that the album focuses on feelings of "uncertainty" and "self-doubt."

As previously reported, the record was produced by big-name studio genius Jon Brion (Kanye West, Fiona Apple). Cosentino previously hinted that the album would be influenced by classic country artists like Loretta Lynn, but that it wouldn't delve too far into twangy country.

The already released demo "How They Want Me to Be" made the cut (it's streaming at the bottom of this page), as did the previous rarities "Up All Night" and "Dreaming My Life Away."

Best Coast will be promoting the album with a tour that includes lots of U.S. dates, plus a trio of Canadian gigs: Vancouver on May 23, Montreal on July 20 and Toronto on July 21. Scroll past the tracklist to see the schedule.
