The Beach Boys promised fans a new album and a tour this year as part of their 50th anniversary celebration, but first up for the classic act will be a performance this Sunday (February 12) at the Grammy Awards. The band won't just be showcasing their hits at Los Angeles's Staples Center, though, as they'll be jamming onstage with Foster the People and Maroon 5.
A press release confirms that Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will play together for the first time in 20 years for what is being touted as a "special performance." It's unclear just which songs all three acts will doll out, but the medley is just one of many proposed mash-ups taking place that night. Also lined up for the awards show is a rock/rap/dance-fuelled fusion between Foo Fighters, deadmau5, David Guetta and Lil Wayne.
Other performers set to appear include Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, Glen Campbell with the Band, Coldplay and Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Taylor Swift, and more.
As previously reported, despite the genre love-in, Bon Iver will not be playing the ceremony, having told the awards organizers "fuck you" after being offered to play another collaboration.
