Having returned from hiding last year with Syro, Aphex Twin is keeping the new music coming with an EP. Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2 is available now through Warp Records, and it can be streamed on Spotify.
As the title indicates, this material consists of acoustic instruments operated by computer, so it the results are neither robotic nor organic. Instead, it operates in an intriguing middle ground, where natural sounds are presented in a way that resembles Aphex Twin's usual all-electronic material.
It's 13 tracks long, although this is classified as an EP because many of the songs are short, with five cuts clocking in at under a minute in length.
