Amy Winehouse is set to be remembered with a documentary film, but with Amy due out on July 3 in the UK, the late soul singer's family have now distanced themselves from the project.
In a statement [via The Guardian], a spokesperson from the Winehouse family said that they "would like to disassociate themselves from the forthcoming film about their much missed and beloved Amy."
According to the statement, "They feel that the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both misleading and contains some basic untruths. There are specific allegations made against family and management that are unfounded and unbalanced."
The film is directed by Asif Kapadia, and it initially came with the backing of Winehouse's family. The filmmakers conducted around 100 interviews with associates of Winehouse, and they said in a statement, "The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews."
Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.
