Air's Nicolas Godin Announces Solo Album, Shares New Video

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 1, 2015

Nicolas Godin makes up one half of Air, but as the chilled-out French duo are treated to a vinyl reissue campaign, Godin is readying his debut solo album.

The record doesn't yet have a firm release date, but it's called Contrepoint and will be released through Because Music. Every song was inspired by Glenn Gould's Bach performances.

Godin said in a statement, "We weren't surprising ourselves anymore, like other bands after ten years or more. The big challenge for an artist is to have a reason to be, because there are already plenty of records out there. I'd made a statement with Air and I wanted to go back to the classical world, to grow up musically, to renew myself."

For a taste of Contrepoint, a video for the instrumental track "Orca" can be seen below [via Pitchfork]. It's a unique collision of classical, rock and electronic music, while the vibrantly abstract video was directed by Sean Pecknold (the brother of Fleet Foxes singer-guitarist Robin Pecknold).
