The Acorn

"Influence" on Exclaim! TV

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Mar 17, 2015

After spending 2014 writing and performing with his danceable Silkken Laumann project, Ottawa songwriter Rolf Klausener has returned to making music with the Acorn. With a new record on the way this spring, the group has already begun testing out new material in a live setting.

The band recently played a set packed full of new tunes at the Polish Combatants Hall as part of this year's Wavelength Music Festival this past February. Naturally, their setlist included "Influence" — the first single from their forthcoming album, Vieux Loup — which we were lucky enough to record live for the latest instalment of Exclaim! TV.

Wanting to prepare the audience for the slick, sensual grooves he was about to perform, Klausener wastes no time in tossing a handful of condoms to the crowd before counting in his bandmates. Strumming a crunchy guitar chord over percussion from Pat Johnson and Adam Saikaley's minimal electronic beats, watch as Klausener's reverberating vocals push the piece into a slow-burning groove accented by some heavily filtered keys.
