AC/DC's Phil Rudd Speaks Out About Arrest: "It Was a Mistake"

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 5, 2015

Disgraced former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been battling charges of threatening to kill and drug possession, but he recently gave up the fight and pleaded guilty. Now, he has spoken out on the incident and admitted his wrongdoing.

Last fall, Rudd threatened to kill an employee and his 10-year-old daughter. When the cops raided the drummer's house a few weeks later, they found methamphetamine and cannabis. Regarding this incident, Rudd told Australia's A Current Affair, "It was a mistake, yeah. Everyone makes mistakes." Later in the interview, he said, "I've seen the error of my ways."

Rudd was apparently angry about the release of his solo album Head Job, which flopped last summer. "I was pretty stressed at the time," he said, going on to describe the launch as "a total fucking disaster. So I was really pissed off."

According to A Current Affair, Rudd called a friend and asked him to "take out" an assistant who worked on the album. The friend alleges that Rudd offered him $200,000 plus a car, a motorcycle or a house. Rudd also called the assistant and threatened him. Luckily for Rudd, he is no longer being charged with a murder plot.

The drummer said that it's up to guitarist Angus Young whether he will be allowed to rejoin the band. "I wrote them a letter and I tried to get in contact with Angus," Rudd said. "I've had no contact from anybody." He added that he's "very disappointed."

Rudd is due to be sentenced on June 26.
