There's mixed news coming from the AC/DC camp, as the Australian act have announced they're due to release Rock or Bust, their first album in six years, this fall. The album, however, is also their first without longtime guitarist Malcolm Young, who has left the band due to illness.
A press release confirms that the high-voltage hard rock unit will deliver their Rock or Bust on December 2 through Columbia. Just like 2008's Black Ice, the full-length was tracked at Vancouver's the Warehouse Studio, with Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Mastodon) producing behind the boards. Engineer Mike Fraser was also brought back to mix the set.
Though a tracklisting has yet to be proffered, a single titled "Play Ball" will be premiered on U.S. station TBS as part of their 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason coverage. A world tour is also in the works, with info on the itinerary due at a later date.
Sadly, Rock or Bust is the first AC/DC recording in the band's 41 year history to not feature founding member Young. While the group had noted earlier in the year that the guitarist was "taking a break" due to an unspecified illness, an update from the act now says that, due to his current condition, he will not be returning to AC/DC.
For the upcoming world tour Stevie Young, nephew to Malcolm and lead guitarist Angus Young, will take on rhythm guitar duties.
